The Magical Lamp

For 's contest. Oh my goodness, I think I'm turning this in an hour before the deadline... |D When do I ever NOT procrastinate?! I think the only watercolors I've done that haven't resulted in me staying up all night were two headshots I did at AX... XD Yes, that's right, all of my watercolors are done with squinty eyes and blurry contacts! Yeeeey. XD

The idea of the contest was to put =ScatterbrainFox's characters into a fairytale. Well, after going through the characters and trying to think of the fairytales I know, which sadly enough is not many, I chose Aladdin a la Disney because, like I said, I do not know many fairytales. =o=

Rufus (left, bottom right) stars as Aladdin! Rufus, like Aladdin, is a thief, and he keeps an animal companion (Freiya) with him. When Rufus stumbles across a lamp, the beautiful genie Priyati (upper right) appears from a thin trail of smoke, ready to grant any wishes as long as they are wise ones. However, the evil Jerry (who is really not that evil, though I made him that way, and is in the upper middle), with his wings of flame, swoops for the lamp before we ever learn if Rufus is wise enough to satisfy Priyati's conditions! The dancer Chari (center), like a certain princess, helps Rufus retrieve the lamp from Jerry's melty grip. But what happens after the lamp is retrieved? Well, finish teh story for yourself to find out! X3;

I tried to be creative with the composition. Rufus's cloak from a backdrop and frame for certain "scenes" or images from the story. Around Chari is supposed to be a reddish sky, but the brown and reds blend together. I tried to stay true to the original design of the characters, too, except for Priyati, who changed a little bit.

As usual, a scanner can't capture everything (though cleaning the image this time around was very easy! Hoorah!). I like the hair of Rufus on the left, but not all of the light purple tones I used came out in the scan. Oh well. Know they're there. XD;
